Do you remember that we reported WiMAX was coming to Los Angeles soon because we saw a Clearwire rep at a kiosk in our local super market?
We were right on target! Sprint and Clearwire said that they will launch WiMAX service in New York on November 1, in Los Angeles December 1 and in San Francisco in late December.
We checked at the Clearwire website and confirmed that WiMAX is available for mobile usage in the Los Angeles Metro area.
With average speeds of 3 to 6 Mbps and bursts over 10 Mbps, ClearWire WiMAX allows users to stream movies, play online games and video chat on the go.
Time Warner Cable also will launch their own brand of the service in
Yew York, and Comcast will launch service in San Francisco. Both
companies are investors in and wholesale partners of Clearwire and
Sprint.
While Clearwire and Sprint claimed a 4G lead on rivals, they are
losing their time lead. Verizon will launch 4G LTE in 38 markets,
including these markets and at 60 airports before the end of the year. MetroPCS launched LTE in Dallas and Las Vegas.
