Motorola has added more Android smartphones to its line, including the Motorola Citrus that will be sold by Verizon Wireless. It's curved like the Palm Pre on the back with data input via the 3-inch touchscreen only.
The Android 2.1 Motorola Citrus is "an affordable, entry-level, customizable smartphone" with a backtrack touchpad on the back to use as a mouse. The processor is only 524MHz, and the screen is a lower resolution (240x320 QVGA), but it is ecological. The housing of the Citrus is made from 25% post-consumer recycled plastic, is certified CarbonFree through an alliance with Carbonfund.org, and is PVC- and BFR-free. The packaging is made from 80% post-consumer recycled paper, and the user manual is made using 100% recycled paper and soy-based ink.
Although the Citrus has Android's features from a year ago, it should be fine for the entry-level crowd. We hope that the Citrus does not turn out to be a Lemon.
No launch date or price has been set by Verizon Wireless.
Other Motorola Android phones announced at CTIA are the Droid Pro, Motorola Spice, Motorola Flipout, Motorola Bravo and Motorola Flipside.
