Samsung Galaxy S: Samsung Epic 4G Update Delayed 'til Later

Whoops, Sprint was planning to release the latest maintenance update for the Samsung Epic 4G, but there were administrative problems.

Here's a statement received from the Sprint Product Management team:

"We were planning to release an update for your Samsung Epic 4G on 9/30.  The file was delivered and on track for distribution, but late this afternoon, we learned that an administrative issue prevented Google from releasing the update as we had planned.  We are working to resolve the issue and will provide an update as soon as we understand the new delivery schedule.

We would like to clarify that the timing of this update has nothing to do with the 30-day return window that many of you on these blogs have been discussing and that this delay has nothing to do with any last-minute changes within the release package itself.  The delay is simply due to an administrative issue that we are working to resolve. "

"The update S:D700.0.5S.DI18 fixes the reported cap on 3G upload speeds, problems with Wi-Fi, standby battery drain and the lag in large email upload speed.  After the update, Amazon MP3 files will download via 4G connections."

This is not the update to Android Froyo 2.2.

The Samsung Epic 4G received excellent reviews and is the only Samsung Galaxy S smartphone to have full slide-out QWERTY keyboard.  The Epic has a front-facing camera for video conferencing and uses Sprint's 4G data network for faster data streams.  It also has a camera flash and mobile Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities (unlimited for $29.99 a month).  4G connectivity to WiMAX comes from a ANADIGICS AWT6264 chipset.

All Samsung Galaxy S phones have a super-fast 1GHz hummingbird processor with efficient 3D graphics processing, Super AMOLED 4-inch touchsreen, 5 megapixel camera, microSD, Wi-Fi, and Android 2.1.  The differences are in the amount of memory, keyboards and carriers.

Samsung Electronics expects to sell up to 25 million smartphones by the close of 2010.
They have already shipped 1 million Samsung Galaxy S phones to the United States.

Many of the Samsung Galaxy S phones were named in Wireless and Mobile News' Review of Reviews Top Ten Best Android an' Droid Phones Now an' Later.
