Several sources report that Verizon Wireless will reveal their new data plans for LTE data network tomorrow, October 6 at CTIA. We suspect a mid-November launch. It has also been suggested via speeches by CEO Ivan Seidenberg that LTE service will have tiered amounts of data and pricing.
LTE networks can achieve data download speeds of 5-12 Mbps. Verizon has confirmed that there will be 25-30 markets at launch. Leaded document revealed that multimedia 3G phones will no longer require a data plan. There is a press conference scheduled at 11 am PDT tomorrow.
Some other reported data about LTE data at Verizon:
- The LTE network is to have latency of 30ms, which is compared with 100ms on current 3G networks and Sprint Nextel's mobile WiMAX service.
- 4G tablets will be coming in 2011.
- By 2012, 50 million devices will have LTE enabled.
- LTE will support video conferencing, high-end gaming, interactive TV, and heavy data-intensive software.
Verizon now has a web teaser page that extolls LTE's virtues. It has also been reported that there will be smartphones and USB devices that will connect via LTE. Verizon Wireless tested Long Term Evolution (LTE) fourth generation (4G) data call in Boston and Seattle based on the 3GPP Release 8 standard in April 2009.
