United Airlines is giving customers who are on the go during the busy holiday
travel season 1,000 reasons to check in and have their boarding passes
sent directly to their mobile devices. Through Dec. 31, 2010, customers
can earn 1,000 Mileage Plus bonus miles when checking in for domestic
flights with any web-enabled mobile phone or device. Registration is available at united.com/mobilebonus.
An added bonus is that Google is offering free Wi-Fi at airports if you can't get a wireless data signal.
United claims that mobile check-in and paperless boarding offer customers greater
convenience while traveling, especially during the busy holiday travel
season when thousands of additional customers pass through airports.
Customers flying on any United or United Express-operated flight within
the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands may check in
by visiting united.com on their mobile phones beginning 24 hours before
departure. After checking in at united.com, customers departing from
nearly 40 domestic airports may then choose to receive an email link to
access their paperless boarding pass.
In addition to checking in and accessing paperless boarding passes,
customers may use their mobile devices to check flight availability,
select seats, sign up for notification of any changes to flight status,
and confirm or choose alternative flights if irregular operations occur.
