It looks like a lot of iPhone owners want to be able to view Flash on their iPhones. Yesterday, the new iPhone browser Skyfire sold out 5 hours after it went on sale. The Skyfire browser enables iPhone owners to view Flash by converting it to HTML5 via their own servers. The browser transcodes the Flash video in a way that lets the iPhone
only see HTML5, and it compresses all videos by about 75 percent in the
process.
The Skyfire servers could not handle the load. Skyfire will be adding servers as quickly as possible.
Skyfire issued this statement:
"Skyfire for iPhone has been received with overwhelming enthusiasm - far beyond internal projections. The result: the company is currently
sold out of its first batch of Skyfire for the iPhone and is temporarily
not accepting new purchases. The company is working to increase
capacity and will be accepting new purchases from the Apple App Store soon."
Skyfire assured users that the app's sold-out status was a
temporary measure taken by Skyfire and was not the decision of Apple, which approved the app.
The Skyfire app was available in the Apple App Store for
$2.99 and was given many mentions in the blogosphere.
