The Nexus S is getting a lot of buzz, advertising and reviews. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread Nexus S was announced yesterday, and Google promoted it the same way they did the Nexus One, with a notice on its Google home search page. The value of such a mention estimated earlier this year was between $4 and $5 million (at $15 or $20 CPM) if an advertiser could buy such an ad.
Bloggers are already starting to compare the Nexus S to the iPhone 4. Apple's A4 system-on-a-chip is more or less similar
to Samsung-manufactured Nexus S: a 1GHz "Hummingbird" processor. The iPhone chip is a customized chip made by Samsung. We've been wondering what the "S" meant in Nexus S. It is now clear that the "S" refers to "S" in Samsung Galaxy S phones that are released by carriers in the United States. The major differences between the Nexus S and the Samsung Galaxy S phones are that the Nexus S has a curved screen, and it runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. American Samsung Galaxy S phone owners are waiting for an update to Android 2.2 Froyo.
Joshua Toplosky at Engadget noted that the Nexus S is "no slouch, boasting all the design leanings of Samsung's wildly popular
Galaxy S line, but packing them into a tighter, sleeker, faster
package." The Nexus S is "blazingly fast without any Android lag. The keyboard, copy/paste, and screen options bring it closer to iPhone 4.
TechCrunch, in a review, noted that it is significantly faster than the Nexus One. The Nexus S' Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth all behaved flawlessly. Call quality and noise
cancellation were excellent and better than similar tests with iPhone 4
without dropped calls.
Reviewers complained that the memory can not be expanded because the Nexus S does not have a microSD expansion slot.
The Nexus S will be available to try out in Best Buy starting December 16.
