In January there were many announcements for upcoming 4G smartphones, including the HTC Inspire, Droid Bionic, Motorola Atrix, LG Revolution and HTC Thunderbolt. Prices and release dates we not disclosed.
We learned this week through a mistaken Amazon Wireless reveal, that the Motorola Atrix will sell for $149.99. Amazon Wireless also briefly showed that the HTC Inspire will sell for $99 from Amazon. According to "someone familiar with the plans," the HTC Inspire will be released on February 13, during Mobile World Congress.
The HTC Inspire runs Android 2.2 on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor with a 8-megapixel camera, 4GB of internal storage,
Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3.5 mm stereo audio jack, G-sensor, digital compass,
proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor. It supports HSPA+ 4G and mobile hotspot.
While the public is waiting for all the new smartphones to be released, there have been a spate of rumors surrounding prices, release dates, and functionality of the smartphones.
We spoke with Keith Nowak from HTC on Friday, who told us that the HTC ThunderBolt is capable of simultaneous 4G voice and data. We also discovered that the inflammatory rumor of the Droid Bionic and Motorola Atrix over-heating was not true.
