Sony will reportedly unveil a new gaming-focused so-called Playstation touchscreen phone in February. Bloomberg received the information on the smartphone from "two people with knowledge of the plans."
The move is part of a strategy to use networked devices to share games, movies and music across Sony products, including TVs and handheld devices.
The "game-changing" Sony Ericsson Xperia-style phone is expected to be launched at Mobile World Congress in February. The phone has also been called Xperia Play.
Sony Ericsson recently introduced the latest model in its Xperia range, the Xperia arc. The arc combines Sony software with the Google Android 2.3. It runs a 1GHz Qualcomm processor and has a 4.2-inch touchscreen, 8.1-megapixel camera, Bluetooth and GPS. The Sony Xperia arc specs follow. first of a new generation of Xperia smartphones to be announced in 2011.
