We've been reviewing what reporters are writing about the new Verizon iPhone 4 and have found some erroneous reports regarding Android holiday phone buyers being able to return their smartphones for a Verizon iPhone 4 and global roaming. Yesterday, our review of news about the Verizon iPhone 4 showed great call quality, good data speeds and not much attenuation. The Verizon iPhone 4 was "On Fire" hot and number one for Google searches.
One reporter suggested that holiday smartphones could be exchanged for Verizon iPhone 4 handsets. It's not an exchange situation exactly. You can return phones bought and then buy the Verizon iPhone 4 on February 3. Holiday buyers may have to go back to their old phones until they can get an iPhone 4.
According to the Verizon iPhone 4 FAQ, it is only possible to
exchange your Verizon Android or Droid smartphone within 30 days of
purchase. There is, however, an exception. If you bought any phone after
Thanksgiving as a gift, along with your receipt you should have
gotten a notice that you can return your phone until January 15.
So if
you are set on exchanging your Verizon Holiday phone purchase for a Verizon iPhone 4, you can return it with the original packaging up until Saturday, January 15. Our Verizon rep suggested that you can go back to using your old phone. You can check with your local store for verification.
Some bloggers didn't like the Verizon iPhone 4 because it doesn't make
global calls over GSM networks. If you take your Verizon iPhone 4 with
you to over 40 countries where there are CDMA networks, including Mexico
and Canada, you can make calls in those countries at an additional
cost. However, you can't make calls in countries where there are GSM networks only.
Here's the fine print from the Verizon FAQ:
Yes, we will gladly accept returns or make exchanges on all wireless
devices and accessories purchased from Verizon Wireless within 30 days
of purchase (14 days for tablets). To make an exchange, return the
merchandise (including device, charger, battery, instructions, and any
other components) in the ORIGINAL box. All merchandise must be in
like-new condition and accompanied by the original receipt. Shipping
charges may apply to exchange merchandise sent to you by Verizon
Wireless. A restocking fee of $35 ($70 for netbooks and tablets) applies
to any second return or exchange of a wireless device (excluding
Hawaii).
