There were 2 million copies of Windows Phone 7 distributed to handset makers in the fourth quarter of 2010. Microsoft reported just before Christmas that 1.5 million Windows Phone 7 handsets had been sold by vendors to mobile operators.
It appears that Windows Phone 7 satisfaction is high. Microsoft's recent survey of Windows Phone 7 owners showed that 93 percent of them are satisfied or very satisfied with their phones. 90 percent said that they would recommend Windows Phone 7 to friends.
There are now 6,500 Windows Phone 7 apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace. There are 24,000 registered Windows Phone 7 Developers, up from 21,000 a few weeks ago.
Reviewers liked the intuitive interface but disliked that Windows Phone 7 lacks tethering/Wi-Fi hotspot, instant messaging and copy/paste. Commercials showed Windows Phone 7 as a way to avoid those "Really" situations where phones are used in showers, on the street, and in the bedroom.
Hackers have found a way to use some Windows Phones as a tethered modem, but we don't recommend this unless you are very technically savvy.
