While some Android Froyo updates have been suspended (Samsung Epic 4G), it has been a week of updates with the Samsung Captivate is getting an update to Froyo via the Kies Mini app and the Nexus S is getting NFC in Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread. Now you can get an update to Android 2.2 Froyo for the HTC Aria from HTC.
You download the update to your computer and then load it onto the HTC Aria using HTC Sync that must be installed on your computer. The update is titled "Android 2.2 ROM Update."
The update will take a while and requires a hard reset. You will lose apps downloaded from Android Market, SMS and email. Pictures and videos are stored on the MicroSD card and will not be
deleted during the update process. All applications downloaded from Android Market can be
restored using the Gmail account you used when you downloaded the apps to your HTC Aria. New features of the Android 2.2 include app sharing, Google navigation with turn-by-turn directions, direct links to video taken on the Aria, Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 8 devices, and USB tethering (with an additional data plan cost). The update includes updated Google apps Latitude, Google Places and improved Google Search.
HTC Sync can come in handy because it also allows you to sync Outlook contacts and calendar,
Outlook Express contacts, music, pictures, video, bookmarks and
documents from your PC.
To download the update, go to HTC Aria update page.
