Verizon Wireless will start selling the Motorola Xoom on February 24 for $599 with a contract, $200 less than the $799 price tag without a contract. Wireless 3G data service for the Motorola Xoom will begin at $20 monthly
access for 1GB. This is the first tablet that Verizon is subsidizing.
The Motorola Xoom has a dual-core processor with each core
running at 1GHz, delivering up to two GHz of processing power, and a
10.1-inch widescreen (1280x800) HD
touchscreen. Features include a front-facing 2-megapixel camera, and a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera (720p HD capture). Other features include 32GB of storage, SD slot for card support and 1GB of DDR2 RAM.
The Motorola Xoom allows
users to view HD content, supports 1080p HD video, and has an HDMI
output. Accessories for it include a sound dock, charging dock, and
wireless keyboard.
The Motorola Xoom runs Android
Honeycomb 3.0 with special tablet features, including widgets, tabbed
browsing and Adobe Flash Player (available in a few weeks). It will be updated to 4G LTE service
at no added cost in the second quarter of 2011.
Readers note that Verizon is announcing the sale of new products two days before the actual sale date. This probably means that the HTC ThunderBolt will not be delivered or go on sale this week. Please also note that 4G LTE access will not be available until second quarter this year.
The Motorola Xoom won many awards at CES.
