Sprint has released celebrity opinions in time for the Oscars. Stars, like geeks, would like video conferencing. The celebs interviewed would like to video chat with politicians, family, astronauts and actresses. The news release is also a plug for its 4G network and video-chat capabilities currently available on the HTC EVO 4G (read review) and the Samsung Epic 4G (read review) with Qik video chat. Sprint does not point out the other "4G" networks that offer video chat.
Bryan Cranston would like to video chat with astronauts on the moon or on Mars. Blair Underwood would like to video conference with President Clinton. Melissa Joan Hart would like to video chat with Condoleezza Rice. Vanessa Williams would like to mobile video chat with her daughter in college.
Recording artist Jess McCartney would like to video chat with January Jones form "Mad Men" because she is incredible.
The
celebs like to use email and text as well as entertainment and Oscar
apps. Sprint, however, isn't the only network that allows for 4G video
chat. Let's see which smartphones have 4G video-chat capabilities:
T-Mobile offers video chat on its 4G network on the myTouch 4G, Nexus S, and the soon-to-be released Samsung Galaxy S 4G. T-Mobile claims that the Samsung Galaxy S 4G is the fastest smartphone, running with theoretical peak download speeds of up to 21 Mbps. Sprint's 4G website shows peak 4G download speeds of more than 10 Mbps.
Reviewers were disappointed that the first 4G smartphone from AT&T, the HTC Inspire, does not have a front-facing camera for video chat. Previously, the HTC webpage showed Verizon's first 4G LTE smartphone, the HTC ThunderBolt, as having a front-facing camera that is now removed. We suspect it will eventually be capable of 4G LTE video chat.
