Windows Phone 7 and Nokia Partnership to Top Smartphone & Marketplace Ecosystem?

Nokia is the top mobile phone maker in the world.  Microsoft is the top software maker for computers in the world.  People who own computers running Windows would love smartphones that make their lives easier, as in the Microsoft Windows 7 "Really" commercials.  Nokia has had a tough time getting into the U.S. market.  Separately, Windows Phone 7 and Nokia software were not taking over the market. Together, they form a valuable force in the mobile industry.  Now two powerful forces have created a powerful ecosystem.

Nokia and Microsoft today announced plans to form a strategic
partnership, with a plan to jointly create mobile smartphone products and services.  Nokia will adopt Windows Phone for its smartphones and help drive Windows Phone in the future.  They will collaborate on marketing, search services, Nokia Maps, carriers, development and app stores.

Analysts have noted that Windows Phone 7 will be gaining in
popularity, and with this alliance, things are looking up for both
companies.  Nokia will sideline Meego and Symbian.

Nokia's CEO Stephen Elop said, "the game has changed from battle of devices to war of ecosystems.

ABI Research VP Kevin Burden said, "With Nokia taking over the
Windows Phone 7 universe, the other OEMs who have initially supported
Window Phone 7 may rethink their commitment, and eventually end support
of Windows Phone 7 the way they did with Symbian, due to Nokia's
dominance and influence over the platform."

Senior ABI Analyst
Michael Morgan states, "Elop's decision to go with his old employer
makes sense up front; however, the decision to tie an incomplete
operating system with an ailing handset design company is a very risky
proposition."

Wndows Phone 7 has had a few problems including an errant data-consuming bug with Yahoo! that has been fixed.  Users are waiting for an update to Windows Phone 7 with copy/paste functionality.

So how do you update a Windows Phone 7?  We've published a Windows Phone 7 update article earlier this week.  In order to do any kind of update on a Windows Phone 7, you must have the latest edition of the Zune software installed on your computer.
