AT&T has changed the way tablet users can pay for data access. Customers can now choose from paying in advance (prepaid) or paying after the service is used (postpaid). The postpaid plan will be billed monthly along with other wireless service. There is no contract required for either plan.
If you are a low data user and exceed the 2GB of data on the postpaid plan, you have the option of paying $10 for 1GB of data. With the prepaid plan, you have to pay for an additional 2GB for $25 when it runs out.
If you are a heavy data user and need data access all the time, the postpaid plan may be a better option.
For a limited time, customers who activate a new
postpaid $25, 2GB plan will receive the first month free from AT&T.
This plan will work with the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the iPad. These new plans may figure in your cost analysis if you are trying to decide whether to buy the Motorola Xoom or the iPad 2.
Here are the details:
- Postpaid: $14.99 for 250MB or $25 for 2GB. Customers on the 2GB
plan who exceed their monthly data allotment will be charged $10 per 1GB of overage. Charges will appear on customers' monthly wireless bills. - Prepaid: $14.99 for 250MB or $25 for 2GB. Customers on the 2GB
plan who exceed their monthly data allotment may choose to purchase an
additional 2GB for $25. Charges will appear on customers' credit card
statements.
Both options are month-to-month and do not require a long-term commitment.
