The Droid line of smartphones for Verizon Wireless has been ruled by the Droid X for some time. Previous rumors suggested that the Droid X2 would be a super-powerful Droid X with more features. Now it appears that the original Droid X will be discontinued and replaced by the Droid X2 with a minor upgrade.
Leaked screenshots from SCK Kiosks (a subsidiary of Radio Shack) show a Droid X2 to be priced the same as the original Droid X with a few changes. The Droid X2 will ship with a 2GB microSD card instead of a 16GB microSD card that's in the original Droid X. The Droid X2 is the name used in their internal database system.
There have been rumors that the Droid X2 will add a front-facing VGA camera and have a speedier 1.2GHz processor. The reduction in the size of the microSD may indicate more storage onboard.
After tunneling through all the speculations suggesting that the
Droid X2 model that was leaked in the screenshot is already in stores, we
called our local Verizon store. The rep told us that you can still get
the original Droid X with a full 16GB microSD. There is no
official word yet on the Droid X2, Droid Incredible 2, dual-core Droid
Bionic (release date), HTC ThunderBolt (release date), Droid 3, or the
Samsung Galaxy Stealth.
