Do you remember on Sunday that we reported HTC ThunderBolt issues, one of which was a problem with audio recording on video? HTC has confirmed that there is a problem and is working on a fix. Forum polls show about 60% of ThunderBolt users are affected.
Meanwhile, reviewers are raving about the HTC ThunderBolt and Verizon HTC 4G speeds. Popular Science showed that ThunderBolt averaged 17.51Mbps download and 28.43Mbps upload speeds from its Manhattan office but thought that users may want to wait for more powerful 4G LTE Android an' Droid smartphones that will be released by Verizon Wireless in the coming months.
In an HTC support email, a user was informed, "The low sound is due to the device's noise cancellation feature. When
taking a video from a distance, the noise cancellation feature blocks
out a lot of the other noise therefore making the video sound lower.
Keep an eye out as there may be a future update."
For a temporary fix, you can download a 3rd-party app from the Android
Marketplace. Search for video or camcorder recorder.
Another user got this response, "We have found through testing that covering up one of the microphones
(pick the appropriate one depending on what type of sound you want to
record) with your finger can dramatically improve the sound recording
capability of the device. Again, this is a temporary work around while
we work on an update."
The HTC ThunderBolt is expected to get an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread in the second quarter of this year (summer).
