The Motorola Atrix, with all its docks, has had slow speed data, which will be updated to HSUPA 4G data access in April.  Meanwhile, there's an update coming out tomorrow that fixes some problems and creates others for those who have rooted the Atrix software or who don't have easy access to Wi-Fi.

If you're an Android anarchist and rooted your Atrix, this update will de-root it.  One zealous forum member posted this warning: "WARNING: this update closes
all known security holes that allowed root access on the phone.  If you
care about rooting, don't install this update."

The well-reviewed Motorola Atrix won the CTIA E-Tech Award for best smartphone but has voice-muffling issues.

Motorola advises that Motorola Atrix updaters connect to Wi-Fi to download the update to avoid excessive data charges.  The size of the update is 17 MB.

Features of the Motorola Atrix 4.1.57 update include improved Bluetooth multimedia,
fringerprint reader, car dock, 3.5 mm jack, and battery performance.  The
screen will not shut off automatically when charging in a wall charger.
The stability glitches have been fixed for better touch response and so that there are fewer programs
quitting unexpectedly.  A new enhancement is data-loss recovery.

Your Motorola Atrix should be charged at least 50%, and you need to have
your SIM card installed.  Please note that you will not be able to make
emergency phone calls during the update process.

User will receive un update notice or can:

  • Select the Settings icon in the main menu.
  • Select "About phone".
    Select "System updates."
  • Select "Download."
  • After the software is downloaded, select "Install."
