After the iPad 2 announcement yesterday, we saw the latest Motorola Xoom commercial air. Comments from viewers suggest that it looks more like a science fiction movie than a commercial. The tagline is "Grab it and it grabs you." Will it grab you enough not to buy the iPad 2?
Reviewers liked the speed and power of the Motorola Xoom tablet but thought it was a bit pricey. IHS iSuppli set the cost of materials for the Motorola Xoom at $359.92. The Motorola Xoom will be upgraded to 4G LTE in the future.
IHS iSuppli reported yesterday that "Apple has matched the dual-core capability of the Tegra 2 in the iPad 2."
The iPad 2 will have a dual-core A5 processor, two cameras, Wi-Fi, 9.7-inch touchcreen (1024x768) but will not have 4G LTE access.
The Motorola Xoom has a dual-core processor, with each core
running at 1GHz, and a
10.1-inch widescreen (1280x800) HD
touchscreen. It
features a front-facing, 2-megapixel camera for video chats over Wi-Fi
or 3G/4G LTE, a rear-facing, 5-megapixel camera that captures
video in 720p HD, 32GB of storage, a microSD slot for card support (after a firmware update), and 1GB of DDR2 RAM.
The iPad 2 with Wi-Fi-only will sell for $499/16GB, $599/32GB, and $629/64GB. The iPad2 with
cellular connectivity will sell for $629/16GB, $729/32GB, and $829/64GB. The 32GB Motorola Xoom with a contract costs $599.99 and $800 without a contract.
First-look comparisons of the tablets suggest that they have pretty much matched each other in hardware specifications.
So the major difference of iPad 2 vs Motorola Xoom is
4G LTE data access. Does the following commercial overpower the
massive audience already developed for the iPad 2? Are you Xoomacious? Does it grab you?
You be the judge.
