Nielsen has posted its latest figures for the top smartphone race. The Android operating system now has 29% market share. RIM's BlackBerry operating system is 27% and Apple's iOS is 27%.
If you go by manufacturers, BlackBerry and Apple tie the race because the smartphones and software are exclusive to each maker.
HTC is the third top smartphone maker with 12 percent of consumer smartphone
owners having an HTC
Android smartphone and 7 percent owning an HTC smartphone running a
Microsoft Windows Phone 7. Ten percent of consumer smartphone owners
had a Motorola Android smartphone, and one percent owned a Motorola
device running a Microsoft Windows Phone 7.
When Nielsen looked at demographics, Android attracts more of the youngest consumers, followed by Apple's iPhone iOS, and then by RIM's BlackBerry operating system.
Note that Nielsen looks at what users are using now. Wireless and Mobile News published yesterday a look at the top smartphones so far this year, and we also keep track of the Top Best Android Smartphones Now an' Later. It's really great that Android is still growing even after the release of iPhone 4. Many people were expecting that iPhone will take over the marketing again with the Verizon iPhone 4. I think 2011 is the year of Android. being an open OS is a very big advantage for it and many mobile companies will have their new mobile phones on Android.
