Verizon 4G LTE Coming to 59 More Medium Metros Sooner Than Expected

4GLTEMap.JPGVerizon Wireless
will be expanding its 4G LTE Market to 59 metros.  4G LTE users should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits
per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

Currently, Verizon Wireless
offers USB modems and the HTC ThunderBolt for 4G LTE access.  The Samsung Droid Stealth may have an April release date.
New metro areas include parts of central/nothern California, Colorado, Connecticut,
Florida Georgia, Alabama, Arizonia Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois,
Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Maryland, Louisiana, North Carolina, North
Dakota, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah,
Washington, West Virgina, and Wisconsin.  A full list of the areas are
shown at the end of this article.  There will be a total of 147 U.S. cities
covered by the end of the year.

Verizon Wireless is also working with rural communications companies to
collaboratively build and operate a 4G network in those areas using the
tower and backhaul assets of the rural company and Verizon Wireless'
core 4G LTE equipment.

"Our commitment to reach deep into medium-sized cities and smaller
communities by the end of 2011 means the power of 4G LTE can be
harnessed and provide advanced services to law enforcement, healthcare
workers, educators, and other professionals, as well as to individual
consumers, sooner than many thought possible," said David Small CTO of Verizon Wireless.
