The leaked update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread last week was apparently a test version. The latest rumor is that there is enough time for testing to get the Droid X update ready for a May 10 release date.
Usually Verizon sends out updates on Thursdays or Fridays so that the data load doesn't affect business data traffic. For example, today, Verizon is releasing an update to Droid Pro. Today is Friday. Verizon diligently tests its updates. The Samsung Galaxy S Samsung Fascinate update to Android 2.2 Froyo was this Thursday.
Wireless and Mobile News does not make up rumors for release dates, but
if we did, we would say either April 29, May 6, May13 or May 20.
The good news is that, when Droid X owners get the update, they will have many new features, such as user-interface refinements,
one-touch copy/paste, better power management, VoIP, download
management, audio effects, new media format support, and multiple-camera
access.
We have been diligently checking the Verizon Droid X update support page to see if Verizon has officially launched the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
When updating any Droid phone, be sure that your battery is at least 40%
charged and that you have at least half an hour to wait for the process
to complete. Just in case, you should also back up your contacts, photos,
and note what software you had installed.
You cannot use your
phone or make emergency calls during the update. Some settings and
applications will revert to default but may be re-synced or reset
following the completion of the upgrade.
