According to comScore, Verizon's iPhone was the top selling smartphone in the United States for the month of February. The Verizon iPhone 4 helped Apple increase .9% to make up 7.5% of subscribers.
Verizon did not release any numbers, but Verizon CEO Daniel Meade confirmed that Verizon is on track to sell 11 million iPhones in 2011.
That was before Verizon opened its 4G LTE data network to smartphones with the uber-popular HTC ThunderBolt that was delayed for over a month and was reported to be outselling the iPhone 4 at some Verizon outlets. Leaked documents show many more 4G LTE smartphone release dates on the Verizon schedule.
The big sales of iPhone 4 at Verzion didn't stop Android's
super growth. Android grew 7% and made up 33% of market share.
BlackBerry was 28.9%, Apple comprised 25.2% and Windows Phone was 7.7%
of market share.
The top cell phone makers were Samsung (24.8%), LG (20.9%), Motorola (16.1%), RIM (8.6%) and Apple (7.5%).
The ways people use mobile content has remained fairly steady, with text
messaging the top use (68.8%), follwed by web browsing (38.4%),
apps (36.6%
), social networking (26.8%), games (24.6%), and music (17.5%).
