The Motorola Forum supporting Motorola Droid owners has many tidbits and news items threaded through messages. A Motorola employee, "Moto_Calvin," confirmed that the Droid smartphones that were released, including the Droid X, the Droid Pro, Droid 2 and Droid 2 Global, will all be getting updates to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
His post to the forums was later edited by the forum manger, who removed all the Droid models.
He later posted that the Droid X's Gingerbread update is "currently scheduled to be released
before the end of the second quarter" which most likely means by the end of
June.
"The update process between Motorola and Verizon can take a lot of time," Calvin further posted.
"The other updates are currently scheduled to be released before the end of the third quarter or sooner. The above estimates are dependent on Verizon approving the OTA (over the air) updates."
Yesterday, forum manager Matt was recruiting Droid X owners for a survey, leading some to believe that the survey-takers would bet first dibs at the update.
When Droid X, Droid Pro, Droid 2 and Droid 2 Global owners get the update, they will have many new features, such as user-interface refinements,
one-touch copy/paste, better power management, VoIP, download
management, audio effects, new media format support, and multiple-camera
access.
We have been diligently checking the Verizon Droid X update support page to see if Verizon has officially launched the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
