Last night, our readers and Facebook fans reported some very interesting information about the early sale of the Samsung Droid Charge at Best Buy stores and the early delivery of a Wirefly preorder. There have also been reports of it being displayed and sold at Target.
Meanwhile, Samsung has uploaded a new video demo of the Samsung Droid Charge(see video at end of this article), and commercials are airing on television. The video claims that Droid Charge has more "wow-ness" and can download a song in 4 seconds.
This news is not surprising because, after an 4G LTE outage on April 27, Verizon delayed the launch of the well-reviewed Droid Charge that was originally announced to be released on April 28. The Droid Landing hunt for Droid Charge smartphones across the country continued as planned. It appears that mass retail outlets were not able to communicate to all its employees that they should not sell the Droid Charge smartphones in stock
The Wirefly buyer received his Droid Charge but can't activate it. Forum members who bought the Droid Charge at Best Buy were able to activate their phones online.
When Verizon delayed the launch of the HTC ThunderBolt, they had never made an official announcement. With the Droid Charge, they didn't change the release date until the day before.
So what happens now? What will be the release date for the Droid Charge?
First, Verizon monitors the blogs and forums. They will not allow any more sales to occur if they possibly can. Best Buy ran ads for the HTC ThunderBolt with the price and wrong release dates. We noticed that there are no new ads for the Droid Charge in Best Buy weekly circulars.
After the BlackBerry Storm launch in the fall of 2008, when there were many software problems on the smartphones at release time, Verizon now has a strong policy that everything will be tested and working before it is released. Hence, the HTC ThunderBolt was released a month or more later than it was expected.
The 4G LTE Droid Bionic has also been delayed for improvements. Apparently, the Droid Charge was delayed due to 4G LTE glitches. What will the next release date be?
The only thing we know for sure about the release date is that, according to the latest Samsung Droid Charge commercial, it will be 'coming soon."
Online retailers Wirefly and LetsTalk are taking preorders for the Samsung Droid Charge and are charging less for it. Amazon Wireless showed it backordered, then out of stock, and as of today, it shows "not available," which may foretell that this super smartphone will sell out.
