Droid News: Droid X Gingerbread Update Approved, Release Date Friday, May 13?
May 13 is one day after the suspected release date of the new Droid X2 that is about the same size as a qHD touchscreen but packs a NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, making it much faster.
Droid X update will have many new features, such as user-interface refinements, one-touch copy/paste, better power management, VoIP, download management, audio effects, new media format support, and multiple-camera access.
We have been diligently checking the Verizon Droid X update support page to see if Verizon has officially launched the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Verizon usually pushes out updates on Fridays or Thursdays.
You can check for the update yourself on your Droid X. From the main menu, Tap Menu> Tap Settings> Tap About phone> Tap System update> Tap Download.
When updating any Droid phone, be sure that your battery is at least 40% charged and that you have at least half an hour to wait for the process to complete. To be safe, you should also back up your contacts, photos, and note what software you had installed.
You cannot use your phone or make emergency calls during the update. Some settings and applications will revert to default but may be resynced or reset following the completion of the upgrade.
