During last week, there were rumors that the Droid X2 would be released this week on Thursday, May 12. Bloggers are rounding up the usual suspects for the specs on the next generation Droid X, the Droid X2. A leaked spec sheet shows some new specs.
The new spec that we hadn't noticed before is that Droid X2 plays 1080p HD video, which is really nice to stream to an HD TV via the HDMI port accompanied by HDMI dual Screen and HDMI status. The Droid X2, however, will only record 720p video. Other new features include a tri-color indicator light, Dual LED Flash, and the pixel density is 240 dpi.
Previous leaks correctly reported some of the specs of the Droid X2: a qHD (540 x 960) touchscreen, Android 2.2 Froyo (updated to 2.3 Gingerbread later), 512 MB RAM, 8-megapixel camera, FM radio, locked/encrypted boot loader and HDMI port. Add to that 2GB of secure storage with 6GB non-removable shared storage, 32 microSD, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The Droid X2 is expected to cost $199.99.
The processor is a NVIDIA Tegra 2 AP20H Dual-Core, making it the only dual-core processor smartphone at Verizon Wireless for now. It supposedly will launch on the same day as the LG Revolution.
MKM Partners analyst Tero Kuittinen contends that the Droid X2 will be a strong rival to the LG Revolution at $250 and with just a single-core processor. The Droid X2 is a 3G phone, he wrote, and its specs and price may help it undercut the Verizon 4G LTE non-dual core HTCThunderbolt or Samsung Droid Charge and the LG Revolution.
