Those who read the early reviews of the Samsung Droid Charge were probably discouraged when they heard that VW had postponed the release of the Samsung Droid Charge after the 4G LTE network outage on Wednesday. The Samsung Droid Charge is speedy and has a gorgeous Super AMOLED touchscreen. Leaked screenshots from Costco show some possible new release dates for it.
Update 05/03/11 9:40 pm - A reader reported the he saw Droid Charge smartphones at the San Rafael, CA Best Buy where they are for sale, but have not been sold (see comment below). Android forum members "Chris Meunier" and another "Moondrius" in Baltimore, MD, reported this
evening, that they were able to buy Droid Charge smartphones at Best Buy stores and
activate them. Chris was so proud he took photo of himself with his new Charge (see photo on left or full photo on Facebook).
He wrote "Well I got it! Woo hoo! The bad news is they couldn't activate it. I
got there and his manager greeted me and apologized and said they
weren't supposed to sell them yet and the guy on the phone didn't know
that.
But he said since I drove all the way he would sell it to me, but
I would need to wait until Verizon took the hold off activations in
order to activate it. So I said okay. It still works on wifi and I can
get it all setup so when they do go live (hopefully this Thursday) a
quick call and I'll be all set."
Update 05/03/11 9:40 am (- A new screenshot from Costco shows the Droid Charge "delayed" with updates coming tomorrow 5/04/11 while hunters are finding and winning Droid Charge smartphones all over the country.
One Costco screen shows the Samsung Droid Charge arriving on Monday, May 2 and states that it cannot be sold until Tuesday, May 3, with the notice "Confirmation of a revised launch date may be sent on Monday." A different screen shot from Costco shows a May 5, Thursday, arrival.
Best Buy has informed its sales staff that hey can't say anything from "blogs and unofficial" sources
because "much of this is unreliable and could mislead the customers." Meanwhile, Best Buy employees are not honoring official release dates......
From what we've seen from early reviews, the Samsung Droid Charge appears to be worth waiting for.
Online retailers Wirefly and LetsTalk are taking preorders for the Samsung Droid Charge and are charging less for it. Amazon Wireless showed it backordered, then out of stock, and as of today it shows "not available," which may foretell that this super smartphone will sell out.
