Droid X Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update to be Released like Motorola Xoom?

Droid X owners who are Motorola Forum members may be getting a chance to see and/or get the update to Gingerbread 2.3 early, according to speculation based on previous actions.

Before Motorola launched the latest update for the Motorola Xoom to Honeycomb 3.1, users were asked to sign up for a special program.  The first Xoom owners to get the update when it was released were participants in the program.

Motorola Forum leader Matt has requested that Droid X owners step up to join a confidential program, leading some to believe those special few will get first dibs at the Droid X update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.  Some are suggesting a May 26 release date on the update, which may or may not be true.

Update 05/25/11 11:15am - In a different forum, it was revealed that the Droid X update is "currently scheduled to be released
before the end of the second quarter."

Verizon is usually a bit slow issuing updates because all updates are tested and are not released with glitches.

When Droid X owners get the update, they will have many new features, such as user-interface refinements,
one-touch copy/paste, better power management, VoIP,  download
management, audio effects, new media format support, and multiple-camera
access.

We have been diligently checking the Verizon Droid X update support page to see if Verizon has officially launched the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

When updating any Droid phone, be sure that your battery is at least 40%
charged and that you have at least half an hour to wait for the process
to complete.  Just in case, you should also back up your contacts, photos,
and note what software you had installed.

You cannot use your
phone or make emergency calls during the update.  Some settings and
applications will revert to default but may be re-synced or reset
following the completion of the upgrade.
