There have been two recent reports of stellar iPhone sales in the United States and the world. Nokia remains the top smartphone maker, followed by Apple, RIM (BlackBerry), Samsung and HTC according to IHS iSuppli
Canaccord Genuity analyst, Michael Walkely, reported that AT&T sells more of the iPhone 3GS than the HTC Inspire or Motorola Atrix. The Android phones from AT&T are taking sales away from Windows Phone 7 phones, such as the HTC Surround and Samsung Focus. Wallkey noted that the iPhone 4 is still the best selling phone on AT&T with over 3.6 iPhones sold in the first quarter.
On the world smartphone market, Nokia is still the top smartphone vendor. No. 2-ranked Apple, in the first quarter of 2011, shipped 18.6 million iPhones, up 14.9 percent from 16.2 million in the fourth quarter, reported IHS iSuppli.
Number-three smartphone brand, Research in Motion (RIM), in the first quarter, outperformed the overall market, with its shipments rising by 4.2 percent. Despite RIM's above-average performance, the company lost ground on the No. 2 smartphone ranking to Apple. RIM, in the first quarter, trailed Apple by 4 percentage points, up from 2.1 points in the fourth quarter of 2010.
