Verizon Wireless is taking preorders for Xperia Play, starting today. Presales also started for the Droid X2.
The Xperia Play runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a 4-inch
touchscreen that slides out to reveal game pad controls similar to the Sony PlayStation.
It will be the first Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone on the Verizon network.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon II processor with Adreno 205 GPU, and it features
mobile hotspot modes, customized home screens, a 5.1-megapixel camera,
Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a personal organizer, a speakerphone, Assisted-GPS,
messaging and email.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play comse preloaded with Madden NFL 11, Bruce Lee Dragon
Warrior, Asphalt 6, Adrenaline, The Sims 3, Star Battalion, Crash Bandicoot, and
Tetris. More than 50 "Play"
game titles will be available at launch for download via V CAST Apps.
Data security for the Xperia gaming smartphone is safe, reported a Sony spokesman. There are still issues with Sony PlayStation security.
It is priced at $199 with a contract from Verizon Wireless.
