Droid 2 Update: Droid 2 Global Android 2.3 Gingerbread Now or Later? VZW Official Says Later

Droid 2 Global Update.JPGThe Droid 2 Global was supposedly getting an Android 2.3 Gingerbread this week.  Verizon's support page shows an update, while the Motorola Forum manager, Matt, posted that the update is not yet rolling out.  We have officially confirmed from Verizon that the update is not rolling out, yet.

"I'm not sure where the confusion is coming from, but the tweets being
posted here appear to be premature.  The Droid 2 Global update is not
rolling out at this time.  Sorry for misinformation  -- we are looking
into it."

Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney informed us in an email at 12:56 pm PDT, today, that the update for Droid 2 Global "has not started rolling out.  We will alert managers when it does."

The Verizon Support Twitter account, however, tweeted that the update is
rolling out.  The most recent Tweet we could find of Verizon Support on
Twitter was,
"At this time it is being pushed out in batches only and is not
available to pull manually."

Typically, Verizon pushes out
updates in very small numbers first and then increases over time.
Verizon also tends to deliver the major push on late Friday, to avoid
overloading business data traffic.  Whenever the update comes out, it's worth waiting for.  It's got all the
Gingerbread features, including download management, better on-screen
keyboard with multi-touch/auto-correction, improved cut/paste, icons,
app groups, updated
calendar options, security features, camera improvements, and improved
email synching.

It will take you approximately 30 to 60 minutes
to download the software and will take up to 5 to 10 minutes to install.  Keep
in mind that, during the installation, you will be unable to make or
receive calls including emergency calls.

The size of this software upgrade, from version 2.4.330 to 4.5.600, is 103MB.

As with all updates, we recommend that you back up your data first and be sure that your Droid is at least 40% charged.
