HTC EVO 3D (Sprint) Review of Reviews

HTC EVO 3D.JPGHTC EVO 3D Rated 4 out of 5 by Wireless and Mobile News' Review of Reviews

The
HTC EVO 3D is a very unique smartphone.  It has a dual-core processor, HTC Sense, and the ability to view and record 3D images/movies.  Most reviewers liked the 3D features while one thought it was a novelty for early adopters.

Reviewers liked the dual-core processor, qHD (960 x 540) touchscreen, big dedicated camera button, and comfortable design of the HTC EVO 3D.

WiMAX data speeds were found to be fast with download speeds as high as 8Mbps.  The larger battery was praised but found to drain quickly when shooting 3D video.

Viewing 3D with parallax-barrier 3D technology on the HTC EVO 3D was sometimes difficult due to a limited viewing angle.  We found that 3D viewing is also affected by vision problems that need prescription eyewear.  You have to wear the correct glasses (contacts) for the distance that you are viewing the 3D screen.
Call quality was rated from poor to mixed to clear, which may have been
due to network coverage.  Call quality can be diminished when in areas
with weak signals.

HTC Sense has many new animated widgets,
including an animated carousel and the choice of apps on your lock, which most of the reviewers liked - especially for new Android users and
social media types.

The HTC EVO 3D has a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core
processor and dual 5-megapixel cameras, which can be used to capture
both conventional and 3D images and videos.  Features include a
1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 3G/4G mobile hotspots, Google Voice
for Sprint, 4GB Internal memory/1GB RAM, microSD slot (supports up to
32GB memory card), Wi-Fi, Stereo Bluetooth, GPS, DLNA, HDMI-out via USB, and
a 1730mAh Lithium-ion battery.

The HTC EVO 3D is worth a
test drive if you loved taking and showing photos to friends, and if you
are eligible for an upgrade.  It's a must-buy if you want to be the
first to have a 3D phone.  The other features are compelling if you need
the social power of HTC Sense.  There are so many dynamic dual-core smartphones, this summer, it hard to decide until you see a chart of all of them.

The HTC EVO 3D costs $199 at Sprint with a contract.  Online retailer Amazon Wireless has discounted it to $179.99 and is available for preorder.  You can preorder the new HTC EVO 3D at Wirefly and with a low-price guarantee, this weekend they are offering free Sprint activations.

is one of the many Dynamic Dual-Cores of the summer of 2011.

Reviews Summarized in this Review of Reviews:

CNET Bonnie Cha called the HTC EVO 3D HTC's hottest new phone and rated it 4 out of 5 for its dual-core processor, dual-core battery, 3D touchsreen and 3D photo/video recording, making it one of Sprint's best.  She didn't like the small amount of internal storage, the call quality and limited angles of 3D viewing.  She liked the feel of it and the textured back coating.  There is no direct HDMI port and you have to buy an MHL adapter.  She liked that you can toggle between 3G and 4G in order to save battery life.  Only 1GB of on-board storage can be used by the owner.  Photo quality in both 2D and 3D was impressive.  Speakerphone quality was a mixed bag.  Navigation and loading was speedy.  The update of features from the EVO 4G are worthwhile.

Sascha Segan at PCMag called the HTC EVO 3D awesome yet baffling and rated it 3 out of 5 for HTC Sense, dual-core processor, Android 2.3, and 3D touchscreen.  He didn't like the lousy call quality, data connection problems, and small 3D viewing angle.  It felt comfortable in his hand and easy to push the dedicated camera button to switch from 2D to 3D.  The qHD screen is sharp.  Using Sensorly's field test app, he found that the EVO 3D had weaker 3D signals than the EVO 4G, while 4G WiMAX speeds were terrific.  Apps performed well and fast.  The 3D images have depth within a plane; they don't seem to jump out of the screen and take a lot of battery power.  Photo quality was average.  He concludes that it is a buyer-beware early adopter phone.

Mark Sponauer at LaptopMag rated the HTC EVO 3D 4 out of 5 and gave it Editor's Choice for 3D fun, dual-core processor, sharp touchscreen, sleek design, 4G speed, dedicated camera/volume buttons, and easy-grip elegant design.  He didn't like the lack of movie choices on HTC Watch, lack of HDMI mirroring and 4G connections issues.  He liked that his 3D photos of flowers popped out of the screen (like a pop-up RadioShack store).  He raved about viewing Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem 3D trailer and adjusting the 3D settings.  He found most of HTC to be smart except for the app screen that moved a page at time.  He liked the touchscreen keyboard that is like Swype.  Benchmark speed tests for CPU and graphics were not as fast as the G2X but were excellent.  Download speeds were as high as 8Mbps near a window.  Photos were bright and detailed.  Call quality was clear and battery life was good except when recording 3D video.
