HTC EVO 4G Update News: HTC EVO 4G Update Fixed Netflix, Ruined Voice-to-Text & Compass

After the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Sprint released another update for the HTC EVO 4G that fixed the Netflix and other issues.  Netflix watchers are pleased while users of voice search and Vlingo Virtual Assistant are frustrated.  HTC and Sprint have responded and have reported that they are working on the voice-to-text and compass issues.

With the recent Gingerbread 2.3.3 Software (version 4.24.651.1) for the HTC EVO 4G, problems occur with Vlingo Virtual Assistant, Stock RSS widget, voice search, Google Voice-to-text, random apps reloading, issues, compass, Yahoo email and broken folder links.

Some HTC EVO 4G owners have used the app Vlingo Virtual Assistant and have managed to get the voice-to-text to work.  As soon as you would use the native app, it would not work.

Here's an email written by a Sprint Forum member:

HTC EVO Gingerbread 2.3.3 Software num 4.24.651.1.  A lot of folks are having problems with the last software update from Sprint.  When you are driving and using the Voice to text it does not work at all.  Seems like a software problems since the gingerbread update.  It was working fine before the update.  Before the update I could be listening to music with the air conditioner on and managed to use the Voice to text and it pick up everything.  People are complaining about this particular problem.  Some have used the app Vlingo Virtual Assistant and managed to get it to work.  As soon as you used the native app it would not work"

After many emails and complaints, an HTC rep responded:

"Thank you for your report regarding voice  to text on the Evo after the Gingerbread update. HTC and Sprint are currently investigating this issue.  While I do not currently have an ETA  I can provide you, it is highly likely that the resolution will come in the form of an over the air update to your device.

You can get the current status of this issue on page one of the thread you linked me. There is a mention of the issue, and that area will be replaced with an update once HTC and Sprint have news available for you."

-  Voice to text (voice search) and compass problems have been reported and are being investigated by Sprint and HTC.  Additional information will be posted when available."
