Sanjay Jah said that Motorola would unlock bootloaders on future Android smartphones. The latest rumor is that the update for the Motorola Atrix 4G to Android 2.3 will also have a feature to unlock the bootloader that will be released soon - possibly in July.
The update is expected to allow the "fastboot oem unlock" command to be executed. Users will get a warning that unlocking the Motorola Atrix 4G will possibly void the warranty.
Bloggers reported that the Motorola Atrix 4G will be getting an update soon, possibly in July, with improved MotoBlur and a better keyboard along with Gingerbread 2.3.3. New Gingerbread features include download management, better on-screen
keyboard with multi-touch/auto-correction, improved cut/paste, icons,
app groups, updated
calendar options, security features, camera improvements, and improved
email synching (read top Gingerbread tips).
Okay, here we go again with the rumor mill. Since the Droid Bionic will
ship with Gingerbread, some are assuming that it too will have the
ability to unlock the bootloader and to load non-Android Market apps.
Latest rumors also suggest a Droid Bionic release date later than July.
The Droid Bionic is expected to have a 4.5" qHD touchscreen, Android 2.3.4, a MotoBlur-style 3D home screen
carousel, connections to a laptop dock, possible GSM radio (for world
access), a 4.5" touchscreen, a 1750mAh battery, HDMI-out 1080p connection, a front-facing VGA webcam
8MP camera, 512MB RAM, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth and GPS.
The Android 2.2 Motorola Atrix 4G has a 2x1GHz dual-core processor for a total of 2GHz of processing power. Features of the Motorola Atrix 4G include 1GB RAM, a 4-inch QHD (960 x 540) touchscreen,
HD video viewing and fingerprint login security,
a front-facing VGA video camera, a 5MP rear camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and
a 1930mAh battery. The price of the Motorola Atrix has been slashed to $99 with a contract from AT&T.
