Smartphones Rule, Android #1, iPhone#3 & BlackBerry #3 says Nielsen

Nielsen's April survey of mobile consumers, over a third have smartphones and the most popular smartphones are Android-based.

Thirty-seven percent of mobile consumers now have a smartphone.  Google's Android
operating system (OS) is the most popular.  Thirty-six percent of smartphone owners now have an Android smartphone, compared to 26 percent for Apple
iOS smartphones (iPhones) and 23 percent for RIM Blackberry.

Android smartphone owners use an average of 582MB of data each month, compared to 492MB for iPhone owners.

  • Apps Are Apparent - 74 percent of Android smartphone owners and 79
    percent of iPhone owners report having downloaded apps in the past 30
    days.
  • Music Streamed - 43 percent of Android owners and 46 percent
    of iPhone owners say they streamed online music or mobile radio in the
    past 30 days.
  • TV Popular Too - 35 percent of Android smartphone consumers and 37 percent of iPhone
    owners report having watched video or mobile TV in the past 30 days.
