Verizon Wireless News: VZW Unlimited Data Limited on July 7?

VerizonDataPackages.JPGVerizon Wireless has been hinting, through various means, that at some point it will end unlimited data and follow the path of AT&T, offering tiered data plans only.

Droid Life reported that Verizon will start charging for tiered data on July 7 for new customers, and it claims that the news is verified by the fact that employees are starting to get letters from their Vice President of Marketing and Operations that states:

"Coming soon, Verizon Wireless
will move from our existing pricing format to a structure designed to
allow customers to choose the right data solution that best aligns with
their needs."

If this rumor is true, and if you want to become a Verizon Wireless customer and use a lot of data, and you have been sitting on the fence waiting to decide between the Verizon Awesome 4G-Threesome, you many want to buy a plan before July 7.
Generally, Verizon "grandfathers" the plan as long as you keep the phone
you bought with the plan.  Sometimes carriers let you keep the same plan
even when you buy a new model phone or smartphone.  We know of cases
where competent complainers caused enough ruckus with Verizon employees
that they were able to keep highly discounted plans for many years.

Verizon Wireless reportedly will change to 2GB a month for $30, 5GB a month
for $50, and 10GB a month for $80.  Tethering plans will be priced at
4GB a month for $50, 7GB a month for $70, and 12GB a month for $100.  These
prices equate to about $5 more a month than AT&T's data plans.
