We woke up this morning to a slew of comments about the leaked screenshot of a Droid Does webpage showing details of the Droid Bionic and a price of $299.
Many bloggers have suggested that the webpage was Photoshopped, while the publisher suggested that web designers use Photoshop in preliminary designs all the time.
We're not going to dissect the leaked image pixel by pixel, but our bogus-pocus focus shows major factors that are missing and some discrepancies in Verizon practices.
The specs proposed on the leak are a 4.3-inch qHD Pen Tile Matrix display, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, TI OMAP4430, 1GHz dual-core processor and Verizon 4G LTE support.
The rendering of the Droid Bionic is the original photo with the old MotoBlur that has been around since January. Others point out that the docks are stock images and the Motorola logo is not current. The URL has been blocked out but, from what we can see, it could be a development website for vzw.com. The leaked image is too small to tell if it shows the exact type of processor. Other Droid smartphones on DroidDoes.com do not show the actual brand of the processor that is usually hidden from the public.
The two most important factors missing from the shot are the date and the source.
Leaked screenshots often appear months after they have been taken, when the anonymous source no longer cares about getting in trouble for leaking information for which they signed an NDA and vowed not to disclose.
As long as the source is anonymous, there is no way of telling if the image is real or not. Anyone can send an image to the website and say it is real. If that person were proven to be a Verizon employee, and the date were current, we may believe that it is true.
Meanwhile, Droid fans are left out with a real information except for that the Droid Bionic will be launched sometime in the summer.
Previous leaked screnshots suggested an August 4 release date from another anonymous source.
The Droid Bionic now has more leaks than the New Orleans levy.
Yesterday, we posted a glorious chart showing all the hot dual-core releases of the summer with the Droid Bionic and its leaked specs. In a few weeks, we should know the real truth.
