There is a new Motorola Droid clearing through FCC hoops, giving Droid lovers hope that the Droid Bionic will be released soon from Verizon Wireless.
The FCC filing shows a smartphone with Wi-Fi and LTE 700MHz band radios. It also has a inductive charging cover. Details of the smartphone are kept under confidential wraps. The WCMDA/GSM network functions have been disabled for U.S. operators. Therefore, it will not be a global world phone.
Since Motorola has only one smartphone announced for Verizon's 4G LTE network, it's a safe bet that the phone is the Droid Bionic.
Update 07/04/11 -A new leaked screenshot that shows an August 4, release date for the Droid Bionic from an anonymous source.
We've seen smartphones released as soon as a few weeks after FCC filing - up to a month or so. For the HTC EVO 3D, full documents showed up at the FCC on June 1, and it was released over three weeks later - on June 24.
It's possible that the Droid Bionic could have a July release but probably not before Verizon starts tiered pricing for data on July 7. We did find a forum post that said, "latest on the street is July 28 launch." If the timing of the Droid Bionic is the same as the HTC EVO 3D, then the July 28 could be a possible release date.
A reader's comment that was recently posted below suggests an August release date. Whenever the date is, it will definitely be summer.
Here's what we do know about the Droid Bionic:
- Viral social media buzz is greater for the Samsung Galaxy S II.
- Previous leaked photos showed the Droid Bionic to have an enhanced large 4.5" touchscreen,
Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, MotoBlur-style 3D home screen
carousel, connections to a laptop dock, possible GSM radio (for world
access), a 4.5" touchscreen and a 1750mAh battery. The entire translation
from Chinese is available on our Facebook page. - It may have an unlocked bootloader.
- Previously announced specs include HDMI-out 1080p connection, a front-facing VGA webcam
8MP camera, 512MB RAM, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth and GPS. - It was announced at CES in January, then in April, that it was delayed for remodeling.

I spoke to a rep from verizon's corporate office and I asked him if it were possible to get the phone by my vacation Jull 22nd and he said no. I asked if there was still a summer release and he said yes. I said well that just leaves August than and he said yupp thats right.
So I would say we're looking at Aug release date based on this feedback....
Um, or July 23-31... which includes the July 28th release date which has been reported elsewhere.
