Verizon has started rolling out an update for the Motorola Droid X2 to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, today. Verizon rolls it out in phases and it will take about a week to complete.
Along with many Gingerbread features such as app download manager, keyboard multi-key shortcuts, better copy/paste, new colors/widgets and calendar options the Motorola Droid X2 update offers glitch fixes. It also installs Google Books. Read Gingerbread tips.
According to Twitter @VZWSupport the update has starting rolling out today. Usually the first day is to a very limited number of Droid owners. The support pages are up and showing details at the Verizon Droid X2 support website.
We have a call out to Verizon to verify how the update process is rolling out because there have been conflicting reports.
It will take you approximately 20 to 45 minutes to download the Droid X2 update software, depending on network conditions. Once you download the software, the next step is to install it onto the device. Installation should take up to 5-10 minutes additional. Keep in mind that during the installation you will be unable to make or receive calls, including emergency calls.
We also recommend that you backup your data and have your battery at least 40% charged. You can check for updates from the Home screen, tap the Menu Key > tap Settings > About phone > System updates > Download. You may also start the update after receiving a notification from Verizon Wireless. Tap "Download" to begin the update.
Glitch fixes of the Droid X2 update include:
- HDMI indicator clears if cable is connected and an application is started.
- No longer receive duplicate SMS messages.
- After Mobile Directory Number (MDN) change, device no longer performs data reset.
- On the home screen, icons and widgets display properly.
- Improved stability reduces device resets, screen blackouts and screen lockups.
- Correct device battery percentage is displayed.
- VZ Navigator works simultaneously with Wi-Fi.
- Easily subscribe or cancel a subscription to Visual Voice Mail.
- Home tray icons can be customized via press and hold.
- When device is placed in desk dock, device no longer plays loud sound.
- Enhanced User Interface provides improved screen transitions.
- Receive MMS sound notifications while on a call
