Yesterday, the @VZWSupport Twitter account reported that the update for the Droid X2 had started rolling out. We contacted Verizon spokesman Albert Aydin, who confirmed today via an email the following:
"Verizon Wireless has begun pushing a software update for the Droid X2 by Motorola. The new software will update the Droid X2 to Android 2.3, Gingerbread."
"The initial push will be over-the-air with notifications sent to Droid X2 owners," said Aydin.
User-initiated (manual) updates will be available soon. He did not have have a date for manual updates when we spoke to him, moments ago.
Verizon Wireless rolls out updates in phases and it will take about a week to complete. In general updates that start on Thursday are very limited until Friday when the network is more able to handle the data. Verizon Wireless by waiting until a Friday insures that corporate email and business data speeds are not effected.
Along with many Gingerbread features such as app download manager, keyboard multi-key shortcuts, better copy/paste, new colors/widgets and calendar options the Motorola Droid X2 update offers glitch fixes. It also installs Google Books.
