There have been reports that the HTC EVO 3D is so hot that it's causing hot pockets. It appears to be an isolated issue that HTC has not been able to replicate. HTC has not received any complaints about the heated problem.
A Sprint forum member reported that his HTC EVO 3D was charging higher than 4.2 Volts at 4.35, and "when I have my EVO 3D in my pocket and then take it out to check
if I have any emails or notifications, it is warm to the touch. and I look at the temp gauge and it shows it had been high."
A forum member claimed that the issue is a fire hazard and contacted Sprint and was told it was a known issue and that they would replace the HTC EVO 3D.
"(The Sprint tech support rep) He said there IS an issue with the EVO 3D over-heating, although no 'official' releases or acknowledgments have come from Sprint or HTC
because of the limited time the phone has been out, and complaints just
starting to come in.
He did not know if it was all of the EVO 3D phones or just a certain
percentage of them, but over the past week, he spoke to seven other EVO
3D customers, all of them having major issues with the phone getting
very hot, some complaining about the battery life getting shorter in
addition to the heat.
The technician felt it was a hardware issue with
the phone, and not a software issue. He also commented on a customer
who had called in with an EVO 3D, and while the phone was charging in
his car, it started power-cycling repeatedly, even when unplugged. He
was not able to stop it until pulling the battery, which was almost to
hot to handle."
The HTC EVO 3D has a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core
processor and dual 5-megapixel cameras, which can be used to capture
both conventional and 3D images and videos. Features include a
1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 3G/4G mobile hotspots, Google Voice
for Sprint, 4GB Internal memory/1GB RAM, microSD slot (supports up to
32GB memory card), Wi-Fi, Stereo Bluetooth, GPS, DLNA, HDMI-out via USB, and
a 1730mAh Lithium-ion battery.
We received a call from an HTC spokesman, Keith Nowak, who told us that he talked to HTC's tech associates.
Although they saw
a
couple
of
reports
online, they
have
been
unable
to replicate
the problem on any
HTC EVO 3D devices to
show
any
overheating
issues. They have not been
getting
any
customer
complaints either. It does not seem to be a widespread issue.
Some suggest a fix is to shut off background apps. Other HTC EVO 3D owners are repotting that they have never experienced the heated issue.
In general, we've noticed that iPhones and powerful smartphones can feel as hot as a freshly made burrito without creating problems.

We're wondering if this is a case for a bogus-pocus focus. The HTC EVO 3D is very popular and received great reviews. Even Paris Hilton uses the HTC EVO 3D.
When
a smartphone is that popular and so highly ranked on Google, bloggers
will report just about anything about it, including hot pants rants.

Hi,
I was searching for the reviews over the net, as I faced the issues with over heat of evo 3D .
Speaking over the phone for just 10 min heats up the phone and cannot hold near the ear. Using 3G or 4G rapidly heats up especially on upper part of the phone. Battery drains even after keeping in low brightness display, turning location wifi bluetooth off. After fully charging in the morning, battery comes only till 5-6 pm with normal useage ( No video watch, music hardly for 20 min ).I am planning to take it to Sprint Customer tech support . Please advise if anyone is facing the same issue
Anytime you have those kinds of problems contact your carrier first.
If you can bring it in and show your EVO 3D to them while it's too hot, that's the best way to alert them to the problem.
My new Evo 3d is impressive, I love the capabilities. I'm having MAJOR problems with my battery life, it is terrible. Suggestions? Could it be defective? Should I return the phone?
Honestly, it is making me miss my Blackberry.

Here's something to note from HTC Support for the EVO 3D:
My device has gotten warm and appears to have stopped charging. What is happening? close
When using the device for prolonged periods of time, such as when you're talking on the phone, charging the battery or browsing the web, the device may become warm.
In most cases, this condition is normal and therefore should not be interpreted as a problem with the device.
The device has a protection feature that if the device becomes too warm (due to use of GPS while charging, BT while charging, using the device as a wireless modem, etc), the auto protection feature will be triggered and the charging process will be stopped.
Once the device cools down, the device will then begin charging again.
