HTC announced on its Facebook page that it will push out an update in August that will unlock the bootloaders for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D
on Sprint.
First, HTC will send out a software update that will enable unlocking. Then HTC will roll out the unlocking feature. HTC is testing unlocking capability now and expects it to be fully operational by early September for smartphones
that have received the software updates.
In May, HTC's Peter Chou announced that HTC
Usually smartphones have locked bootloaders. The bootloader
initiates the operating system, such as Android 2.3. If the
bootloader is locked, the smartphone can only use the operating system
that
comes with the phone. The ability to unlock the bootloader is more important for developers who want to test operating systems and apps. Most consumers should not unlock the bootloader. Previously, it was noted that it could void the warranty.
