The Sprint Nexus S 4G will be getting an update to Android 2.3.5 starting on Monday, July 25, that will increase data speed for both 4G and Wi-Fi. Nexus smartphones get updates sooner than other models because it is a pure Google experience without added-on carrier bloatware.
Samsung and Sprint worked together to improve functions. The update improves signal strength, speakerphone quality and now supports TTY for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Users should receive the over-the-air update (OTA) in the next three weeks.
Tests of both 4G and Wi-Fi access have significant increases in speed.
When the update rolls out, be sure that you back up your data and contacts first. Please be sure that your Nexus S is fully charged when you download the update. You will not be able to make emergency phone calls during the update process.
Starting Monday, you can check for updates on your Sprint Nexus S 4G:
- 1. Go to the Home screen.
- 2. Tap Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates.
- 3. Tap Update Firmware or Update Android.
- 4. Your phone will automatically download and install updates that have been pushed to it. If no updates are available, "your system is currently up-to-date" will display.
- 5. Tap Next to return to the Home screen.
Good update info! The non UI version of Android makes the Nexus S a winner.
