Review of Droid Bionic News: Droid Bionic Release Date 8/4, Display & Docks

Droid Bionic Display.JPGThe Droid Bionic should be released soon since there has been evidence suggesting that the August 4 release date is true.  There is a photo of a Verizon display for a new Droid smartphone and accessories appearing on Amazon.com.  There is an FCC filing from June 23 (IHDT56MX1) that will release the confidential documents, such as the user manual on August 7.

The display from a Verizon store space shows a 4.3-inch touchscreen.  The Amazon.com Droid Bionic car dock and desktop dock items and descriptions have been removed.  The item listings revealed few details except for an 8MP camera, curved back and HDMI port.

Yesterday, a Netflix announcement showed support for the Droid Bionic, leading to the assumption that the Droid Bionic would have Texas Instruments OMAP processor that supports Netflix secure HD.  Then Droid Bionic was later removed from the Netflix list.

Here's a summary of the latest speculated specs for the Droid Bionic:

  • 4.3-inch touchscreen - speculated from Verizon display.
  • HDMI port and mirroring - confirmed from Best Buy ad as well as HDMI port shown on Amazon docks.
  • Dual-core processor - always in specs, we don't know if it is still NVIDIA Tegra or OMAP.
  • TI OMAP 4430 dual-core processor - speculated from undocumented Droid Does webpage.
  • Desktop and car dock - confirmed from Amazon.com.
  • 8MP camera - confirmed by Amazon and has always been in specs.
  • 2MP front-facing camera - confirmed in original announcement and onward.
  • Laptop dock - many believe that the DB will work with the Motorola Atrix laptop dock.
