You can't get an iPod for less than $100, but you can get a 9.7" tablet, the discontinued HP TouchPad with 16GB of storage for $99 and with 32Gb for $149 but is it worth it?
We know for sure that HP will discontinue making the tablets. We know that webOS doesn't have a lot of apps for it, but you can browse the web, get email, view documents and read books via Wi-Fi in full color. You can even print to an HP printer.
Update 8/22 11:47 AM: There is now an email notification sign-up page for when the HP TouchPad comes back in stock.
Although most bloggers thought no one should buy something that won't be supported. The $99/$149 TouchPad is out of stock from HP online, with the notice to "Please check back soon."
Therefore, it just goes to show reducing the price of a tablet down to close to $100 will make it sell even faster than the iPad. The HP TouchPad was second to iPad in a recent survey.
At $100 the HP TouchPad provided a lot of power and features that made it very desirable.
Other retailers have not discounted the price of the HP TouchPad, yet.
There were rumors that Best Buy wanted to return unsold stock. If you want to nab an HP TouchPad at that great price it definitely would be worth checking the HP online store to see if goes back in stock.
Retailers such as Walmart and Office Depot reportedly discounted the HP TouchPad in stores and also sold-out.
Update 8/21 5:23PM: Apparently, there were lines at retail stores to buy the discounted TouchPads. There is growing momentum to find a way to put an Android reader into webOS. We bet people would pay for an app like that.
