The HTC Status is sort of the "tween" phone. It's a cheaper smartphone with a smaller screen, QWERTY keyboard and a special Facebook button just for the teens and tweens but without the status of full-powered Android smartphones.
TechCrunch reported that the Facebook smartphone after only 36 days on the market will be discontinued. The HTC Status, has had problems from the start. At first it was named the HTC ChaCha which conflicted with the text-answer service ChaCha.
This is not the first time this kind of phone failed. Previously, the KIN One and KIN Two, both geared for the teen market met a quick demise. The main problem is that teens and tweens want the adult smartphones, they don't want a slimmed-down cheaper model.
TechCrunch also reported that the people who work at Facebook don't use the Facebook HTC Status smartphone but mainly use iPhones.
Although the HTC Status was priced at $49.99 or free at Amazon.com, it just was not a true Status symbol like high-end Android smartphones. Tt also required the same expensive data plans as more full-featured smartphones. Reviewers had mix opinions of the HTC Status.
