Yesterday, we decided to look at the issue of delayed release dates. From our perspective, we charted how releases of smartphones before they were ready created huge costs and problems for the carriers. The carriers in turn remain "mum" on release dates until the last possible moment.
Now the iPhone 5 has joined the delayed release date club.
Previous leaks suggested a September release date for the next iPhone 5. That rumor was based on the fact that AT&T and Apple were blocking employee vacations in last two weeks of September which could be to get ready for the new iPhone 5 release date.
Today's rumor is from AllThingsD and claims sources with knowledge of the situation said that the iPhone 5 would launch in October. Other sources said it will be later in the month, rather than
earlier.
Previous leaks suggest that the Phone 5 will use
the faster A5 processor, a Qualcomm dual mode
GSM/CDMA radios and an 8MP camera.
We don't Know if this delay is like the delay of the Droid Bionic which was caused by 4G LTE connectivity issue. The delay of the HTC ThunderBolt was also caused by 4G LTE compatibility issues as well as the delay of the Motorola Xoom 4G LTE update.
Employees of Apple, AT&T and contractors are under strict non-disclosure rules. A few years back, a Foxconn employee killed himself because he lost an iPhone 4 prototype. Then an iPhone owner lost an iPhone 4 prototype in a bar which resulted in a police investigation.
There are tons of money and high expectations riding on the release dates of all new smartphones. You can bet on it. But you can't bet legally on the actual iPhone 5 release date.
An angle that we did not look at was that the technology is not moving
as fast as our desires or demands. Users have come to expect their
smartphones and tablets to be faster and better than their computers.
