Apple and its iconic iPhone are gaining traction with more people and more carriers. In-Stat predicted today that the average Apple household would have four Apple-branded devices by 2014. It's looks like those household can be Sprint subscribers and may pay less for iPhones. There's some new iPhone news regarding carriers, pricing and radio bands.
- Today, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sprint will release the iPhone 5 in mid-October. Reuters reported that Apple is working on a cheaper version of its 8G iPhone 4 model.
- TechCrunch reported that the next iPhone will be both GSM and CDMA and work for different carriers all over the world. the information came from application logs.
- One unnamed source stated that Sprint will begin carrying the iPhone 4 at the same time, most likely at a lower price.
- Analysts report that landing the iPhone a big win for Sprint and help Sprint maintain many customers. Sprint is the only remaining carrier to offer truly unlimited data to new customers.
It's interesting to note that Apple charges carriers $650 for each iPhone, which the carrier has to subsidize over the life of the contract of the phone.
Verizon Wireless sold 4.5 million of the iPhones the first half of 2011.
AT&T sold 7.2 million this year iPhone smartphones.
